Laurent Garnier Stars In New Techno Documentary

The film discovers the history of the music genre through the French DJ’s recollections.

‘Laurent Garnier: Off The Record’ is a new documentary that will premiere in July at the Manchester International Festival (MIF).

The documentary tells the history of the techno genre through the opinions and experiences of iconic French DJ and producer Laurent Garnier.

Being shown on the 11th of July at Manchester Central, it will touch on the story of Laurent Garnier’s own career before expanding to talk about techno on a whole.

Directed by Gabin Rivoire, the film chronicles how techno spread through the world. It’s widely known that the genre started in America, but first started spreading across the world after finding a pocket of success in Europe.

Many veteran DJs and producers like Laurent Garnier played a pivotal role in the expansion of the genre. Laurent Garnier will talk about his personal role in the scenes of his native Paris and also in Manchester during the 1990s, when he was a regular at places like The Haçienda.

The documentary will also make reference to some of the other artists and locations that helped grow techno and other associated electronic music genres.

Laurent Garnier and Gabin Rivoire will both be in attendance at the documentary premiere, and will take part in a Q&A after the screening, alongside former Haçienda residents Dave Haslam and Jon Dasilva.

Tickets for the screening must be purchased in advance, and can be bought from HERE
