Shanghai Nightclub ‘Le Baron’ Closes This Weekend

Shutting down after seven years, the owners will soon be opening a new venue called ‘GRND CNTRL’.

Le Baron in a nightclub that’s based in the Chinese city of Shanghai, which for the local scene has been one of the leading venues for electronic music.

Opened in 2014, this weekend will be the last time its dance floor is open, as it will be throwing its final party on the 26th of June 2021.

Cody Allen is a founder of the venue and managing partner, earlier in the month have made a statement on social media saying his team had “done everything we could possibly hope to do and more with this club, in this space,” continuing to say “it is time to wrap up the show.”

“All good things come to an end, and for this first chapter of Le Baron in China, this is the end.”

The Shanghai venue is sibling to the Le Baron club in Paris, France. During the seven years it’s been open, its played host to DJ performances by artists ranging from Hudson Mohawke to DJ Spinna.

Although this is the end for Le Baron Shanghai, Time Out Shanghai reports that the team are launching a new venue in the city called ‘GRND CNTRL’.

GRND CNTRL will be located in the Xintiandi neighbourhood, and is scheduled to open this summer. Cody Allen told Time Out that it “will share some of the same DNA [as Le Baron], but it will be a quite different concept”.
