Robbie Akbal Drops New Release ‘Phangan’

Out now, the release also includes remixes by Alex Twin and Jim Rider.

Robbie Akbal is a Mexican artist who is internationally respected for his organic style of house music.

Not only is he a respected DJ and producer, Robbie Akbal also runs the highly influential record label, Akbal Music. Having made numerous releases on his own label along with other imprints including the likes of Sol Selectas, Get Physical and Crosstown Rebels, Robbie Akbal’s latest releases comes via Midnight Riders.

Midnight Riders is a relatively new record label that Robbie Akbal has set up to be a sister imprint to Akbal Music, and the label’s new release also features remixes by Alex Twin and Jim Rider who have worked with other imprints such as Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream.

Opening the release is Robbie Akbal’s solo original track that includes a sitar played by Sidartha Siliceo. The sitar fires off psychedelic tones that are augmented by the fluttering melody of the lead synth. It’s propelled forward by flowing percussion consisting of hi-hats, congas and claps are underpinned by a deep bassline and kick drum. Alex Twin’s version works in more percussion while also pushing the sitar back in the mix, and Jim Rider’s melodic rework removes the sitar to make room for more synths.

Overall, it’s a well-put-together release with Jim Rider’s remix adding some nice variation from the other two mixes.
