Hi Chris, can you start by telling us about yourself, and how you first got into electronic music?
I grew up with my parents near Frankfurt, which was the main techno city in Germany in the 90s with clubs like the Omen or Dorian Gray. I loved the synthesizer music and sounds of the 80’s as a child, and then became aware of the faster techno beats through the HR3 club nights broadcast on the radio in 1993. In the first two years, it was still rather trancey, but I quickly fell for the hard techno beats… especially the Omen and their parties with DJs like Sven Väth, Johannes Heil, Taucher and Frank Lorber who all had a great influence on me.
Could you talk us through your new track “Panic Lock”, and the EP that it features on?
I’ve been wanting to try something new for a while now, and put a harder pace in my productions without losing focus on the groove.
I wanted to go back to my origins which for me is the techno and rave of the 90s. Rave has always played a big role, so I tried to combine those rave sounds and synths with modern techno. The result is Panic Lock. The B-side “Darkness” is influenced by the tracks and artists I like to play most at the moment which is a new Cosmic Techno style.
The track is a dark club stomper, but at the same time an absolute hands in the air number, because of its break and the catchy vocals. Really, one of my favourite tracks and best productions so far.
How did you meet the team behind Codex who are releasing your new EP, and is this your first release for the imprint?
I’ve been in contact with the guys behind CODEX for quite some time, as I already released successfully on their other label IAMT last year. The label owner Spartaque is a big fan of my sound, and we are in good contact, so further cooperation was only a matter of time. “Panic Lock” is my first EP on CODEX Recordings, but I hope more will follow.
Which other labels have you worked with, and what’s been your proudest moment to date?
I have worked with several labels so far, including very well-known ones like Unrilis, Phobiq, Bitten, Orange and Funk’n Deep.
My focus is also to work with labels where the philosophy is right for me, and not to spread myself too far. I prefer to return to labels that I work well with… like a family.
My proudest moment as a producer until today was the promise of this release. But you should still set yourself higher goals and keep working.
Have there been any big-name DJ’s supporting your music, and who is the DJ/producer that inspires you the most?
There are a number of big DJ names who support my music like Richie Hawtin, Joyhauser, Amelie Lens, Luigi Madonna and Joris Voorn. Spartaque was really someone who played my tracks from the beginning and he used my track “Fury Road” on IAMT in a long YOUTUBE video interview.
Artists that inspire me at the moment are definitely Joyhauser, Spektre, Layton Giordani, Rudosa, Kevin De Vries and Pleasurekraft to name just a few, but of course, Adam Beyer from the beginning.
What’s next in your schedule after the Panic Lock release hits stores on the 27th of December?
My next release will be at the same time as the “Panic Lock” EP on Codex. It is a remix for Christian Hornbostel on the label Set About by Metodi Hristov.
I’ve got some cool stuff is already signed for 2020, and I don’t want to tell you everything just yet, but there will be something from me on Unrilis and also Orange Recordings.
Is there anything else you would like to tell our readers about?
Live and fight for your goals/dreams… keep on working! Be grateful for every day you can make music. Techno Music is my passion and my life.
