With Eli Amsalevski having new music out now on Asymmetric Recordings we catch up with him for the latest episode of 12 Questions.

1. How old are you, where are you living and how long have you been producing and Djing?

Eli: I׳m 38th years old , I’m living in the holy city Jerusalem Israel, I’m djing since age 17 more than 21 years , My first release was in 2012.

2. Where do your musical roots lie, what are your first memories of electronic music and when did you know you wanted to pursue it seriously? Was a career in music always the only objective, were you interested in anything else as a life journey? Are there any particular productions or artists from the past that really made you think to yourself ‘this is what I want to do.”

Eli: My connection to music start at very young age I’ve always liked to hear music my favorites artist was Michel Jackson Stevie Wonder and Luther Vandross My love to electronic music was start in 1996 my friend let me listen to the mix cd “ Sasha & John Digweed Northern Exposure North “ and from there it all began I took my inspiration from “Sasha Digweed Circulation Deep Dish and many more, I was and still playing in the most prestigious clubs in Israel and spend a lot of time in my studio.

3. How difficult was learning to produce for you in the beginning? Did you take any Audio Engineering programs or production courses to help you out or are you pretty much self taught? And did anyone give any advice early on that really helped?

Eli: I start to produce music in 2011, I buy my first DAW (Ableton 8) and start to watch and read articles & courses online after 2 years I meet Lonya and he give me a lot of gold tips in the production process.

4. What parts of the production process do you find the most difficult and what comes easiest for you? When you do hit a creative block what helps you through it?

Eli: The most difficult part in the production process is to finish a new project I have a lot of project that i start and put it away. The most easiest part is to open a new project and flow with the beat I always try to concentrate only in the production process and don’t let anything disturb me when i have creative block I turn off the DAW for several hours and listen to other producers.

5. You have a new track out this week on Lonya’s Asymmetric Recordings. A timeless melodic piece entitled ‘Red Light’, it’s part of the label’s ‘Off Springs #2’ collection. Tell us how you approached writing the track, how the relationship with Asymmetric began and what’s coming later this year from you?

Eli: I remember that i was in vacation suddenly the melody start playing in my head i took my cell phone and started to record the melody after that I back to the studio and start work on the melody Asymmetric is my home Lonya is a great person and very talented musician he do great job with the label and the musical selections Lots of original and remix going to be release later this year stay tune 🙂

6. Apart from electronic music what other genres do you listen to and who are your favourite artists outside of electronic? and do these genres or artists have a direct effect on your own productions?

Eli: I like to hear Funk & Disco from the last years of the seventies & the eighties i always try to put my musical roots in my productions. Today my favorite artist is “Kleerup Coldplay and Moby“

7. What was the first and last physical (CD, Vinyl, Cassette etc) piece of music you bought?

Eli: The first album i bought is “Jacksons 5 -Victory “ love every sound on it. Today i listen via Spotify and Youtube

8. Tell us something about yourself that might surprise people?

I really like to watch basketball and football games, i go once in week to see game of my favorite team also i love to cook and read books.

9. What five tracks are you currently loving the most at the moment?

10. Which producers consistently inspire you? And where else does your inspiration come from?

Eli: I get my inspiration from artists like Tail Of Us, Luciano, Adriatique. Usually my inspiration come in the morning when my head is clean but the inspiration can come from everything.

11. There are countless producers out there trying to find their way and create their own unique sound like you have, what advice do you have for them?

Eli: The first thing go with your dreams don’t give up work hard and the results will come i think that who deals with production he get his own unique sound.

12. If the final DJ/live set of your career was next week what would your last track be?

Eli: So hard to choose one I think about lots of track but if I have to choose I pick in the masterpiece “The Age Of Love – The Age Of Love “
