Sign The Petition To Help Save Melbourne Nightclub, ‘ATET’

A jewel in the crown of Australia’s club scene, the venue is under threat of forced closure.

ATET has played host to the likes of Audiojack, DJ Tennis, Âme, Oliver Koletzki and many more…

ATET is an Australian open-air dayclub located on waterfront in Docklands, Melbourne which is beloved by the electronic music community in Melbourne, a city usually known for its arts and entertainment. It’s recently been revealed that the city of Melbourne has unfairly terminated the venue’s Crown Land licence, rendering the floating club homeless.

There has been much outrage and frustration from the Melbourne dance music community who see ATET as a vital part of the city’s underground music scene, and a petition has been launched to try and save the club.

Melbourne’s local council claim their reasoning behind the forced closure is the result of an Environment Protection Authority investigation that was triggered after local residents made noise complaints.

The team behind ATET say that the complaints are from a tiny minority of people who were making complaints before the venue had even opened, as it appears they simply don’t like/understand the culture that surrounds electronic music. Marvel stadium in the area that creates plenty of noise on game days and because of this the area is an entertainment district with no noise restrictions.

After the business launched, the small minority of people against ATET were allegedly making complaints against the venue on days when it wasn’t even open. Any time there was noise in the area that the club is located, residents would blame ATET without even checking to see if the venue was open, or considering other possibilities for the source of the sound.

ATET insists it has taken all necessary steps to ensure compliance with the Environment Protection Authority, and its owners feel any noise outside of the legal restrictions is from another source that has not properly been investigated.

To ensure compliance, ATET claims it regularly paid qualified acoustic engineers to undertake noise testing to make sure the venue was consistently meeting its legal requirements.

Flow Music had planned to host events at ATET, but the weekend that we were meant to have our event, ATET was firebombed in an arson attack. It seems that local residents will do anything to go back to Docklands’ days as a dead suburb. The fact is the area will be revitalised and ATET was just the first business back in that area. We urge all our readers to sign the petition, and help save one of Melbourne’s best underground venues.
