Inspired by the sounds of Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo and Ulrich Schnauss, Bloom Records founder Golan Zocher took it upon himself to educate the Columbian locals, spinning vinyls in a city where the electronic music scene was just a shadow of Salsa and tropical rhythms.

Hi Golan, where are you based now and how did you first get started in the scene?

I just move to Tel Aviv after being in Colombia all my life. I strated in Colombia aroud 1999 spinning vynils and having my own radio show called “Calma Electrica” inspired then by global underground series Electric Calm, where i used to introduce full albums by dj´s like sasha´s first live album – airdrawndagger, John Digweed – Layered Sounds, Back to mine series, and all sorts of artists and compilations that where unheard of in my local city and at the world were representing the underground side of electronic music. . Then at 2003 i dropped everything related to music and had a long break from djing or any music related thing till 2011 (personal and health reasons) In 2011 i started to realize that no matter what i can not go on without music in my life, so i started from scratch again to collect new music, watching production tutorials and so on.

For those that are not aware, how would you describe your sound? Is there a philosophy behind the music you play?

Well there is no doubt i am into the progressive house scene in terms of sound however my sets can bring a lot of different genres, from afro house to strong tech house, techno and even electro, but always my peak and my favourite would be sounds and tracks that relate to the progressive house world.

My philosophy behind the music it’s to start telling a tale from the first track I play and make a connection with the people on the dance floor. It’s very important for me to feel that connection and that the people dancing will connect with themselves. I think that’s the most important thing about electronic music.

Talk to us about your latest release and the inspiration behind it.

The inspiration behind Ancient Times Remix was to create an atmosphere that would be perfect for moments of driving energy and that would suit dj sets in their peak time but at the same time i tried to put into it that melodies that might give you a little boost, a little break just before you keep jogging the rest of the night in the progressive house world. So i tried to combine those elements from the original to put them in my own story, complementing them with my own sounds to narrate the original track in a more driving way.

What’s been your biggest achievements so far?

When guy J played my unofficial remix with my bro Kamilo Sanclemente to a classic track by Red Carpet – Alright in Warung, Brasil at sunrise and having a brazilian magazine talk about that magic moment.

To be appearing constantly in Hernan Cattaneo´s live sets and Resident Radio Show is a huge honour.

Talk to us about the music scene like where you’re based: where’s hot, who are the big names locally and how often are you playing?

Well I just moved back to Tel Aviv, Israel and I have not lived here for 25 years so it´s a big change for me. Locally the big names are ones you already know like Guy Mantzur, Roy Rosenfeld, Guy J, Lonya but there are others really talented to look out for such as Uriah Klapter.

What are you goals for the future and do you have any other things planned that you want to share?

I´ve been doing a lot of remixes but now I am moving on to produce more originals and that´s basically my plan for now..Produce as much as I can original music. I think the rest will come with it.
