Benjamin Philippe Zulauf Drops New EP ‘Dagid Part II’

The four-track deep tech release is out via his record label, Hummingbird by BPZ.

Hummingbird by BPZ is a deep tech record label with a new release made up of four tracks from the label owner Benjamin Philippe Zulauf.

Benjamin Philippe Zulauf was born in Switzerland and raised in the UK, but spent many years living in Australia where he frequented the likes of Revolver Upstairs in Melbourne.

Now back in Europe, Benjamin Philippe Zulauf still sites his time living in Australia as an inspirational part of his musical journey. Not only has he been inspired by the different cultures he has experienced on his travels, but his sound takes elements from genres such as house, techno, acid, breaks, electro and funky.

The music he makes is deep and moody with old-school vibes and timeless sounds reminiscent of pioneering Chicago house or Detroit techno, but with modern production that ensures his tracks have a thickness to them.

First of the tracks, “Le King Charbon” has fizzing metallic percussion and a dreamy melody that is underpinned by breezy pads. “Subtly Vibing” has distorted vocals and an acid line with wavey synth pads and a plucked melody sound. “Exit Reality” has distorted pads that wash over a menacing acid line and upbeat percussion rhythms. “Honkytonks” closes out the release with jazzy melodies and spiralling pads that fill the track with laid-back vibes.
