Spec X Explains Why DJ Feedback Means Nothing

We caught up with Stuttgart based Infamous Records label boss Spec X who’s impressive productions are starting to get him noticed…

Hey Timm, where are you based and how did you first get hooked on dance music?

I’m from Stuttgart Germany. I grew up with hip hop but always had techno around me from my friends. After my gigs I always was on techno after hours and I loved it. When I build up my studio and started my new DJ career there was only techno in my productions

Who are the people that most inspire you in dance music right now?

I’m not sure with the word inspired because the inspiration for my productions comes from all music and situations. I write down my thoughts in a reminder app and when i’m in the studio I work on them. Sometimes I cant remember what I wrote in my mobile. That’s also the story about my successful single “don’t do XTC anymore”. HAHAHAHA.

But when I don’t look up in my music folder and have to tell you a name. It’s Raito he releases on Boys Noize records and is from France. Check him out.

How would you describe the style of music you’re making and which major labels have you featured on?

I release only on my own label at the moment ‘Infamous Tracks’. But i’m in contact with some of the bigger labels. Some tracks straight techno but some of them are more focused to bring emotion into the ravers on the dance floor. That they remember the track and sing it under the shower on the next day haha.

Is there any philosophy behind the music you’re creating? Are you imaging how it will affect people? Or are you just making music?

My music is more with thoughts behind a story. That’s why I use sometimes vocals to make it more clear.

I work now on a second album with a story. I still will release singles that are only for the club but the “real” Ep’s I want to have a story on. I don’t want to have a releases on any label just to have some more clicks and the track has no attention. I want that people really get into it.

What have been some of the biggest highlights from your career to date?

Maceo Plex played my track “don’t do XTC anymore” the whole summer tour in 2018. So a lot of people wrote me on social media that they love the song. That was really a good feeling to have a big feedback from a track where you was working really hard.

Talk to us about your latest release and who’s been supporting it? Are they usually supporting your music and are all the people you look up to supporting your music?

I have many feedbacks on my releases via promo, but I stopped posting and naming it when it has no video or stuff. It looks stupid because everybody does it and some fake it.

Are there any more goals with the artists you want to get support on and the labels you want to appear on?

My goal is the Top for anything. I’m also self employed for many years but now have the freedom to come back to my real personality and work in the studio as artist. That means a lot to me.

Tell us about your DJ setup when you’re performing. Any plans to perform live?

I’m a DJ for life since the age of 14 so I don’t like “live shows”. But I use also the mic and the Pioneer Toraiz when I perform. I had some “ghost shows” and it was a complete story. I will post this on my page soon how I will continue with this. No hate for live DJs but I want to focus on the crowd and dance with them together while I DJ.

Do you have any other releases planned for the future that you want to share?

It’s all in my mind and reminder app hahah. Next release is Change 2020 EP again on my own label. One Love out there and stay positive, keep on dancing and supporting real music.
