Jacob Groening Drops New EP ‘Neko’

Out via his record label Kamai Music, it also includes remixes by Xique-Xique and Kermesse.

Jacob Groening has previously featured on record labels ranging from Bar 25 Music to The Gardens of Babylon.

Out now, is a new EP by Jacob Groening who is a German organic house artist living in Berlin.

The release has an oriental influence with its sound/sample selection and choice of melodies. Both of the original tracks also come with a remix that compliments the original version. Brazil’s Xique-Xique remixes the EP’s title track “Neko” and Argentinia’s Kermesse put their stamp on “Suingu”.

Jacob Groening has previously released on record labels including Bar 25 Music, The Gardens of Babylon and 3000 Grad Records, but this latest offering coves via his own Kamai Music.

Neko is an interesting piece of music with a flittering bassline that judders and shuffles underneath a rolling percussion loop and flickering hi-hats. Its intimate vocals and compelling singing sections add to the hypnotic tones of the xylophone melody.

Xique-Xique switches out the bassline and pushes back the xylophone to create a more melodic feel that has added depth and a poignant mood. It’s a little more up-tempo than some might expect if they are familiar with his music on The Magic Movement, but it’s a stunning remix non the less.

Suingu has a melody that’s traditional to oriental culture and it’s blended with rubbery textures that add a hallucinogenic vibe to the track. It’s high-end shakers and gliding synth part add to the light and breezy feel. Overall, it’s a very interesting track that fuses contrasting ideas that are both classic and contemporary.

Kermesse is a duo that has also been featured on LNDKHN and A Tribe Called Kotori. They give Suingu a new percussive groove that removes the originally trippy sound and lifts the tempo. They also add their own rhythmic chords that complement the oriental melodies.

Some of the DJs already supporting this release include Armen Miran, Be Svendsen and Acid Pauli.
