We talk with Dresden-based producer Felkon, as he drops his excellent new ‘Cry Wolf EP on Alex Niggemann’s Soolfooled label.
Your musical beginnings seem to have been in punk rather than house and electronica. What was your involvement in the punk scene, and what inspired the switch to electronic music?
Yes, I used to be in a fun-punk band, but I honestly do not think that we were part of a punk movement. We were young, foolish, liked the idea of anarchy and loved beer. That’s it! So, after we broke up, I just didn’t want to start all over again, but what remained were my guitar, a computer and my inner urge to make music.
There are some pretty emotional sounds on this latest EP for Soulfooled – what inspires you when you’re in the studio?
Sushi.
How do you find the music scene in Dresden at the moment? Where would you recommend an electronic music fan going if they visit your hometown?
The electronic club music scene in Dresden is kind of ‘work in progress’, but I really like the current trend. People are now able to party from Wednesday until Sunday, which was not possible even a couple of months ago. If you are coming to visit us, I would strongly recommend attending ‘Kurz & Schmal’ at ‘Sektor Evolution’, to start things.
Current Top 5 tunes?
– ‘Memory Man (Kalabrese Remix)’ by Pacifica [Drumpoet]
– ‘Windy Sky’ by Hans Thalau [Connaisseur]
– ‘Soft Streams’ by The Field [Kompakt]
– ‘Electric’ by Kiani & His Legion [SoHaSO]
– ‘Lifetime’ by Chinaski [Uncanny Valley]
Do you have any other releases or performances lined up for 2016 that we should look out for?
Well, I’m currently working on a 2nd EP for my homey label ‘Blossom Kollektiv’, for release soon. Thanks. ☺
