‘G2B3:comp-02’ is a new downtempo and organic house compilation from Sergey Pushkin’s record label, It’s Good To Be A Tree.
It’s Good To Be A Tree was launched in 2020 and since then its only put out a handful of releases, but this is because the label values quality over quantity. This compilation is their eighth release and rather fittingly, the compilation also features eight tracks.
One of the tracks is a three-way collaboration between Betelgeize, Beznosuk and Valique, but it also features solo productions from Daniel Hokum, Kuumba, Last Gentleman On Playa, Valique, Yassen, Zoe Reijue and Sergey Pushkin.
Every track on the release is a well-produced piece of music that has been lovingly curated as part of a tracklist that flows to become a continuous stream of audio.
Yassen’s “Moon Camp” opens proceedings with its swirling synths and shuffling percussion, then Zoe Reijue’s “Slow Me Down” takes things a little darker with dramatic piano chords and a digitised vocal. Daniel Hokum’s “Equilibrium” continues on the same dark vibe with breakbeat percussion and lurching synths that have undertones of electro. Last Gentleman On Playa’s “Horny Elephants” makes ingenious use of an elephant sample combined with slow-mo tribal percussion rhythms.
Betelgeize, Beznosuk and Valique’s takes us into the second half of the compilation with their track ‘La Tribu Triangular’, which has trippy vocals and springy melodies mixed alongside psychedelic guitar chords. Kuumba’s “Homecomforts” has jacking percussion rhythms and jazzy synth, then Valique’s “Phetoho” has strong tribal percussion and upbeat synth stabs. Sergey Pushkin Feat. Unibird titled “Fading Away” closes the release with husky vocals and a stripped back groove full of liquid textures.
It’s a great release, and you can buy a copy HERE.
