Paco Osuna is a house and techno icon from Spain whose latest release is a collaborative EP with German artist Melanie Ribbe.
This is the first time that Paco and Melanie have collaborated in the studio, but they have previously shared the decks to play a B2B DJ set. They both have a stripped-back style of house that focuses on funky basslines and techy percussion, and this EP features three original tracks.
Titled ‘The Key’ the release is out via Paco Osuna’s record label Mindshake which in recent times, has been the main platform for much of his original music. Melanie Ribbe is making her debut on the record label with these collaborations, following her music being featured on other labels such as Moon Harbour and Saved Records.
“The Key” is the EP’s title track and it starts proceedings with an acid bassline and metallic, high-end percussion that’s sequenced into upbeat rhythms. The track’s vocals add a chic vibe with their slick lyrics that open up into a hip-hop verse during a breakdown section. “Dance Tonight” is second on the release and it’s a trippy track with lots of different vocal textures layered with a rumbling bassline and rippling lead synth. Closing the release, “Shake Control” is a funky track orientated around flowing percussion and soulful vocals.
