Australian Brothers Break World Record For ‘Smallest Mobile Nightclub’

Set up by Sydney based twins, the less than 2m square ‘Doof Shed’ holds a maximum of 7 people.

Australia is known for many incredible things, and now it can add the ‘The World’s Smallest Mobile Nightclub’ to the list.

Set up by twins Harry Nathan Labrakis and Evangelos ‘Boonie’ Labrakis the 1.53m x 0.74m x 1.88m sized space has officially been awarded the title in the Guinness Book Of World Records.

Some might recognise the name of Harry Nathan who makes electronic music and has over 100,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and millions of career streams to his name. His music can be heard on labels including Majestic Casual and Kitsuné Musique.

He conceptualised the 1.5-metre club in order to provide one-on-one music experiences with a little help from his father Evangelos Labrakis Sr. and twin brother Boonie, who is also a dance music enthusiast and aspiring music producer. The family collective created the COVID-safe space that just so happened to fit within the parameters of setting a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the smallest mobile nightclub. Until now the world record had previously been held by Club 28 in Rotherham, UK.

Harry Nathan gave a statement saying: “Dance music culture continues to experience setbacks worldwide, with music festivals and nightclubs closing or being cancelled at a rapid rate. The landscape has become very difficult for promoters to schedule future events, running the risk of having their events cancelled last minute due to COVID restrictions or sudden government lockdowns.”

After the recent relaxing of Sydney’s COVID-19 restrictions, the twins decided to open up the experience and exhibit the miniature club to the general public for one day, which involved paying customers entering into a ballot system for an opportunity to experience the unique venue, with all proceeds going to mental health charities to aid those who have been affected by the pandemic.

Evangelos ‘Boonie’ also makes music, but he likes the harder sounds of techno compared to the deep and seductive grooves of his brother Harry. Talking about their tiny club space, Evangelos ‘Boonie’ said: “I love techno and I love cars, enough said. My DJ sets are pretty heavy, different to the downtempo or experimental stuff like my younger bro. Nightclubs for me are all about the doof, that’s why I named it the ‘Doof Shed’. When people enter the ballot they can choose who’s show they’d like to attend. You can bring your friends to my set too… our current record is 7 people!”
