Minimal techno artist Richie Hawtin has been nurturing the genre since it first emerged in the early 1990s. Even after becoming commercially successful, Hawtin still continued to push himself out of his comfort zone, looking for new grounds for experimentation and innovation.

Motor City Parties
Early in his career, Hawtin would travel often travel to Detroit. His big influences were Juan Atkins and Derrick May and the place to see them play were the Motor City
Parties.
Plus 8 Records
In 1990, the two Canadians, Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva started Plus 8 Records. The label was truly underground and crucial to Detroit’s electronic music scene. Many have released on the imprint, including Electric Deluxe (Jochem Paap), FUSE, Taksi, False, Dreamlife, Adam Beyer, Alex Under, Alexi Delano & Xpansul, Baby Ford & Eon, Link, Lemon8, Paco Osuna.

In 1998, Hawtin founded his other label Minus. The Canadian legend said in ‘Techno Rebels: The Renegades of Electronic Funk’ that: “You learn better who you are, what you are, and how to better present that and present it creatively. With Minus, we wanted to slow it down and try new things…”
Remiix Minus
In 2011, Hawtin’s technology company Liine released Remiix Minus – an application for iOS which allows users to recreate their own personalised remixes by using loops and samples from tracks released on Minus.
Model 1
In 2016, Richie and engineer Angy-Rigby, launched the innovative MODEL 1 mixer. The mixer is co-designed by Hawtin himself, and is a purely analogue revolutionary mixer.

Neopop Festival
