Two weeks after announcing the remix pack trilogy for BRONSON’s critically acclaimed, namesake album, Ninja Tune has officially unveiled the full breadth of ‘Remixes Nº.1.’ The EP is nothing short of impressive, with contributions across the genre spectrum from Skream, O’Flynn, Cassian, Tunnelvisions, and OFFAIAH.
Cassian certainly kicked off the announcement on a strong note with his take on “KNOW ME.” Thus, who better to carry on the “KNOW ME” torch than the legend that is Skream, who made the original warehouse appropriate with a speedier tempo and an enriched low end. This grittier take is a welcome contrast to the ethereal tones of the original and the slightly more commercialized interpretation by Cassian.
We’d be remiss not to mention Tunnelvisions and O’Flynn, whose contributions are equally tasteful. Per his usual modus operandi, O’Flynn took a more eclectic, leftfield approach to the popular “VAULTS,” twisting it into a cosmic soundscape with stuttered vocals and twinkling synthwork. Similar to Skream, O’Flynn ensures underground appeal by making its basslines more prominent. Tunnelvisions went a completely different direction for “DAWN”, blending their soft, cerebral touch into the mix for a finished product fit for the sunrise or sunset. It’s this energy that has landed the duo on some of the foremost tastemaker labels like Atomnation, Disco Halal, and now, Ninja Tune.
OFFAIAH’s grooving, tech house take on the “HEART ATTACK” is the penultimate track of the compilation and will likely be a hit in the more mainstream club spaces. The EP as a whole is class, and sets the bar high for the next two volumes to come.
