Ninja Tune & AIAIAI Collaborate On Environmentally Sustainable Headphones

Made from unsold vinyl and vegan leather, they are a special edition version of the TMA-2 model already popular with DJs.

Ninja Tune have partnered with AIAIAI to make headphones from recycled unsold vinyl records.

Based in the UK, Ninja Tune is an independent record label known for releasing music by the likes of Bonobo, Roots Manuva, Bicep and Floating Points.

Danish headphone manufacturer AIAIAI are known for their high-end audio products.

The headphones to come out of the collaboration are a limited edition version of the “TMA-2” model, which are already very popular with lots of DJs.

Ninja Tune has provided the unsold records for the manufacture of the design, and the project links to both companies making efforts towards environmental sustainability.

Their wireless design allows 20 hours of audio playback via Bluetooth 5.0, and has a coiled detachable cable. The on-ear and over-ear cushions are made using vegan leather to maintain the products environmental focus.

Joe Durnan is Senior Designer at Ninja Tune, and discussing the headphones he said: “For Ninja Tune as a label, we are keen to not only celebrate the past but also mark our intentions going forward both sonically and ethically. We are keenly aware of the need to explore more ecological and earth positive means of manufacturing. To continue to exist as an industry we need to place these topics at the forefront of discussions and decisions.”
