Ibiza has confirmed the date of its pilot event to test the safe opening of the island’s clubs.
Scheduled for Friday the 25th of June at the Hard Rock Hotel, the trial event will be the venue’s flagship party, Children of the ’80s.
The trial will allow 2,000 of the island’s key workers to attend and test COVID-19 protocols within a live music setting before other clubs are allowed to reopen.
There will be no admission fee for those who wish to attend the party, but everyone in the crowd has to adhere to strict rules for entry. On arrival, everyone must give proof of at least one vaccination dose, presence of COVID-19 antibodies after recovering from an infection, or a negative PCR test result to show they are not currently carrying the virus.
Anyone not able to provide the required information for entry will be turned away from the premises, and those allowed inside will be tested for COVID-19 two weeks after the event.
Monitoring the rate of new infections from those who have attended will provide data that will help decide whether the test event contributed to an increase in coronavirus transmission and infections. If this trial is successful, then it’s hoped other Ibiza venues could be back in action by mid-July.
Whatever date the Ibiza clubs open, the Balearic Government has already said it expects nightclubs to operate with significant health and safety restrictions. These are expected to include a 3AM curfew to keep in line with the Spanish Ministry of Health, along with limitations on dance floor capacities.
Studies of pilot events in Germany, the UK and in Spain have so far provided data that suggests music events can be safely reintroduced provided additional health measures are in place.
Although, there are new concerns about the Delta COVID-19 variant, and how effective the vaccine is against new strains as the virus evolves.
