The latest release on Tash’s Movement Recordings welcomes Ewan Rill back to the label for his debut EP.
The Russian artist made his debut on the Greek imprint in March of this year with a remix of ‘8’ by the Magnetic Brothers. Now the Sever Records boss makes his much anticipated return to Movement presenting his three track ‘Silence’ EP.
Ewan’s long been regarded as one of the more creative artists in progressive house. His long history in the genre has seen him amass a huge discography and he’s added some of his finest work to it here. Beginning with the title track ‘Silence’, Ewan showcases his quirky, dance floor friendly style with a production that sits somewhere nicely between progressive and tech house. A smooth rolling groove sits at the foundation while trippy motifs and dark tones surround the framework. Augmented with two breaks the production moves through a captivating narrative with fuzzed out stabs, distinctive drums and delicate hypnotics sealing its overall brilliance.
The second selection ‘Swimming Arrows’ comes in lighter and more melodic, sitting as a lovely complement to ‘Silent’. Phasing atmospheres, playful drums and a unique cadence make it ideal for the dance floor, while a timely break adds just the right amount of tension. A stellar third act brings refinement to the groove with spacey effects and a luminous glow carrying it home. Lovely stuff from Ewan.
The release concludes with ‘Grow Me’ which comes in a bit deeper and more techno inspired. A stripped, punchy groove sits at the foundation as a dreamy storyboard begins to evolve above. Rhythmic hooks and poignant melodies stand out while quirky lines and bouncy rhythms make it great for a late night dance floor. Three diverse and inspired cuts from Ewan which make for a superb debut EP on Movement Recordings. Don’t miss it.
