What’s In Your Box: Roger Martinez

With Roger Martinez’s’ ‘Chinguarime’ out this week on Soundteller Records, we take a look at his favourite tracks of the moment in the latest edition of What’s In Your Box?

Roger Martinez

1. Roland Klinkenberg and DJ Remy – Mexico Can Wait (feat. DJ Remy) (Roland’s Dub) [Global Underground]

Actually it was the Peter Horrevorts Remix of this track from years ago that I could remember, but I was so happy to come across this new version. Nice dubby and driving fresh dancefloor material by Roland.

2. Just Hear – Uni Verse (Pole Folder Reworck) [Reworck]

Absolutely love Pole Folder’s recent work and this one just creates such a wonderful mystical feel on the floor. Driving tribal percussion backed up with mystical vocals, dark and driving, just right.

3. Mathew Jonson – The World Will Come Around (Original Mix) [Fabric]

Melodious, sexy, I love the positive uplifting vibes in this little masterpiece. A simple but constantly shifting theme combined with a bassline that just oozes with the joy of making music!

4. Chris-T & Matu – Perfect Getaway (Ben Grunnell Remix) [Basswalk Records]

I think of Ben Grunnell as a master in creating contagious rhythms that excel in simplicity and groove. This is a track that gives me that tribal jungle feeling. A little mystical, a little sexy…

5. Dustin Nantais – Marching Through the Universe (Pole Folder Remix) [Wide Angle Recordings]

Couldn’t have agreed to a better title. Again, Pole Folder expressing his finest feelings through sound! Deep emotions and feelings of interconnectedness going all around the room!

6. Plus Thirty & George Ledakis – Serendipity (Dmitry Molosh Remix) [238W]

Dmitry is one of my more recent heroes of dance music. He always has these driving rhythms combined with emotional and mysterious synth work. I’d say Steve Roach meets progressive house in the right way. Delays and pads all over, great for mind journeys!

7. Guy J – Provokoter (Original Mix) [Bedrock Records]

Full on jungle vibes on this one. Love the percussion of this track combined with some serious bassline action. Top stuff to keep the vibe dark and mysterious.

8. Decepticons – Easter promise (Guy J Remix)

One of my hidden secrets during sets. The track never officially got released through a label, but I think it is one hell of a track. Got that wonderful old-style Progressive feel to it I can remember from Sasha and Digweed sets.

9. Li-Polymer – Bird of Paradise (Simos Tagias Remix) [Movement Recordings]

Simos Tagias is a musical prodigy. I find his productions complex, deep, mystical with an always  wonderful mix of lighter and darker elements across the track. This track has that wonderful 16th drive in the percussion with mysterious vocal effects filling up the background and some retro bassline stabs. Love it!

10. Loudeast – Lights Off (Samio Remix) [Shinichi]

To me one of the best dance music productions I know. When dance music wasn’t so divided into all these genres. What a journey this one is in itself. Long massive break with amazing sound design. The full on heads-down bassline carries this track towards dubby atmospheres, only to return dark and driving again! Stuff for very special moments…
