UMEK, POPOF and Space 92 have teamed up for a three-way collaboration to form something of a techno supergroup.
Individually each of the guys need little introduction, UMEK is of course an iconic techno artist who has been releasing music since the ‘90s. During his career, he has had many top-selling releases ranging from his classic track “Gatex” to his more recent hits such as “Vibrancy” and “Cryptic Speech”.
UMEK spent a long period as the top-selling techno artist on Beatport, but was pushed to a close second when Space 92 exploded onto the scene during the peak of the pandemic.
Space 92 spent many weeks at the top of the techno charts and has continued to be one of the genres best-selling producers. He has already released solo music on UMEK’s 1605 record label, but this time he is returning to collaborate with the boss himself.
POPOF is a French artist whose style spans multiple genres ranging from tech house to techno, and he has been at the top of the European scene for many years as both a DJ and producer. He has already teamed up with Space 92 for some previous collaborations, but it seems the pair invited UMEK to make a triple threat.
Together the three of them have pooled their talents and produced a track called “Control”, which has been released as a single on UMEK’s 1605.
Control has a pulsating bassline and explosive kick drum with fast-flowing percussion adding to its raw energy. The title comes from its vocal sample, and the track also has some acid synths, plus a euphoric melody introduced in the main breakdown.
All three of the artists share a similar style of techno, and their shared collaboration is everything you would expect. It’s expertly produced with a strong personality and the sample gives it a defined sound that’s instantly recognisable.
This really is a must-have for anyone who is into main room techno, and there seems no doubt that this track will be doing the festival/Ibiza rounds this summer.
