UMEK is one of techno’s old guard, but he loves to champion fresh talent, and his latest release sees him team up with young buck, Matteo Vitanza.
Having worked in the music industry for three decades as a DJ and producer, UMEK has risen to become one of the world’s most respected artists. Having dominated sales charts for what seems like forever, UMEK has worked with record labels ranging from Carl Cox’s Intec to Adam Beyer’s Drumcode. 1605 is UMEK’s own record label, and this latest release sees him make a return to his imprint, but this time he brings Matteo Vitanza along for the ride.
Matteo Vitanza is a hotly tipped talent who is making his impressive 1605 debut after working with other well-known imprints like Cosmic Boys’ Legend, Spartaque’s Codex and Spektre’s Respekt. Prior to working with UMEK, he has also collaborated with other respected artists such as Dok & Martin.
“Trouble So Hard” is the solo track on this release and it samples the same vocals used in Moby’s classic track “Natural Blues,” but it’s safe to say that UMEK and Matteo Vitanza have made the sample their own.
The track opens with a powerful bassline and thumping kick drum that are layered underneath fast-paced hi-hats. Picking up momentum as the track unfolds, it starts to tease the vocal that’s played in full during the euphoria of the breakdown. When the drums come crashing back in, they are joined by flickers of an acid synth line that helps the intensity lift to a new level.
