There Is An Unofficial Burning Man Happening This Weekend

10,000 people are expected to attend an event at the Festivals usual location in Nevada, America.

Burning Man is officially cancelled in 2021, but that hasn’t stopped people throwing an unofficial equivalent.

Although this year’s Burning Man festival has been officially cancelled, it’s expected that an unofficial event will go ahead in its place this weekend.

It’s predicted that around 10,000 will arrive at the usual Burning Man site at Black Rock Desert in Northern Nevada for an unauthorised and unofficial festival, which amongst other titles has been getting referred to as the “Free Burn” or “Renegade Burn”.

The area of the Burning Man site is managed by the Black Rock Field Office, and the area is available for the public to use year-round, but with a limit to recreational use and camping for no more than 14 days at a time. So those going to the Free Burn aren’t breaking and laws by attending.

Although, some temporary laws have been put in place to restrict what’s allowed, as until October 31st there is a ban on the burning of structures, building of structures, and possession and/or use of lasers. These things will make it a very different festival, and mean there won’t be a Burn Night.

Burning Man usually has an airstrip for on-site arrivals, which also won’t be allowed at the unofficial event.

There have been reports of people arriving on the site since the 20th of August, but there is also a suspicion that the expectation of 10,000 arrivals could be reduced. This is because of fires in the area that have caused poor air quality.

Currently, the organisers of the official Burning Man are planning for their event to return in 2022, but this Renegade Burn does seem like a good alternative for those who want their fix in 2021.

The last official in-person Burning Man happened in 2019 before the pandemic, but in 2020 and also in 2021 there was and will be official online events being streamed.
