‘The Australian Music Vault’ Celebrates 5th Anniversary

Housed at the Arts Centre Melbourne, the exhibition documents and celebrates Aussie music culture.

The Australian Music Vault is an exhibition that’s been hosted at the Arts Centre Melbourne since 2017 and has received over two million visitors since its first opening.

Celebrating its fifth anniversary, The Australian Music Vault was conceptualised by Michael Gudinski and houses memorabilia from over 250 artists that have left their mark on Aussie music culture.

People have travelled from across Australia and further afield to see the exhibition which includes live performances, learning programs, public events, digital events and even bus tours.

It also houses electronic music production gear such as synthesisers and other equipment that helped shape Australia’s electronic music scene along with other genres such as rock and pop.

Karen Quinlan is the CEO of Arts Centre Melbourne, and talking about The Australian Music Vault, she said: “For five years the Australian Music Vault has been working hard to amplify the stories of Australian contemporary music through our constantly evolving exhibition space and digital experiences. Through our continued collaboration with the music industry, we will continue to cement our place as a must-visit Melbourne location.

Not only is the ever-evolving exhibition documenting the history of Australian music, but in partnership with Arts Centre Melbourne it is also helping nurture today’s scene with a venture called ‘Vault Sessions’. Vault Sessions is a digital concert project that streamed online gigs and helped pay artists who performed during the lockdowns.
