TAYA is an Australian artist from Byron Bay whose style is a blend of warm synths and earthy percussion.
His back catalogue ranges from the highly influential Circus Records run by Yousef, to his latest release on Open Records.
Open Records is an Australian imprint at the heart of the country’s thriving club scene, and along with TAYA’s original track “The Views of Wellington” there is also a remix from Doppel.
Doppel is another one of Australia’s most respected artists and along with his DJ sets at many of the country’s best festivals and club events, he has an impressive back-catalogue including music on records labels such as Hoomidaas, Einmusika Recordings and UGENIUS Music.
The Views of Wellington was written while TAYA was on tour in New Zealand during a period of personal heartbreak, those soul searching emotions have culminated into one of his most emotive tunes to date.
Opening with cinematic chords and poignant vocal textures, the track’s moody atmosphere builds captivating suspense. Its stripped-back percussion allows for the parts to breathe while still having enough energy to keep the dance floor captivated.
Stepping up on remix duty, Doppel switches the focus to the percussion with his version that keeps the original’s vocal textures but works in extra percussion without compromising on the atmospherics.
Both versions are well-produced progressive house tracks that are perfect for home listening or DJ sets.
