EXIT Festival in Serbia has announced that those attending from other countries will be offered a free COVID-19 vaccine.
The festival will only allow those on site who have already had a vaccination or can provide a recent negative test result.
Those who can provide evidence they have already had COVID-19 will also be allowed on-site, due to them having natural immunity after their immune system had created antibodies to fight off the infection.
In addition to offering vaccines to international guests and the artists due to perform, the Serbian health minister has made an agreement with the festival that will allocate 3000 free opening night tickets to medical workers.
It’s not yet fully clear how the vaccines will be allocated to visitors, especially with many people who get the vaccine often reporting mild symptoms for a short period. So, it could ruin some people’s festival experience if they feel run down while their body builds immunity.
The festival is scheduled to run between the 8th and 11th of July, and on paper this seems like an innovative initiative that’s aimed to minimise the risk of a COVID-19 outbreak at the event.
In a statement, Serbia’s Prime Minister Ana Brnabić said, “Serbia has been one of the global leaders in mass vaccination for months. Thanks to that, we have an ever-improving epidemiological situation and the plan is to open the country for gatherings, concerts and festivals on June 21. In this way, we show not only the care for the event industry that contributes so much to our tourism and economy, but we also fight for the mental health of young people.”
DJs booked to perform at EXIT Festival include David Guetta, Solomun, Paul Kalkbrenner, Nina Kraviz, Hot Since 82, Paul Van Dyk, Honey Dijon have and more.
