The latest release on Michael A’s Genesis Music welcomes Javier Portilla & Sotela to the label for their debut single.
The Moonchild Records label bosses are two of Costa Rica’s most well known electronic music talents and have been remixed by industry heavyweights Cid Inc and King Unique. Fresh off a release for Lonya’s Asymmetric Recordings, Javier and Sotela now make their Genesis Music debut with ‘Midnight Call’ alongside a remix from Michael A.
For those that follow Javier and Sotela you know they are diverse and talented producers with a pendant for timeless musicality. On ‘Midnight Call’ they take a deep, hypnotic beginning and slowly build it into a mammoth sounding production. The methodical growth of the piece is enormous with catchy vocal hooks, acid-like lines and a rugged low end establishing a nice presence early. The duo then proceeds to unleash layer after layer of sonic delights, from complementary vocals to spiralling motifs. With tension at an all time high, angelic pads descend over the framework for an epic moment, elevating the track to new levels which ultimately seals it’s brilliance.
The lone interpretation comes from Michael A who has remained busy this month with releases on Movement Recordings, Hookah Records, Stripped Recordings and Temporum Music. Here he takes ‘Midnight Call’ into deeper, melancholic territories with a few surprises along the way. It’s sleek flow and brooding emotion is quite powerful and the addition of some brighter vocal elements really gives it a unique vibe. Definitely one for a late night floor and something Guy J fans will certainly want in their arsenal.
