Beatport DJ is now free to Beatport Link subscribers, and a small monthly subscription is all you need to be a DJ!
Beatport is the world’s biggest retailer for downloading underground electronic music, and it’s now rolled out Beatport DJ to all its Beatport Link customers.
Beatport DJ is mixing software similar to Traktor or Serato that allows users to mix and blend tracks together aka DJing.
What makes Beatport DJ different is that its online software hosted on Beatport’s website, and combined with Beatport Link it could potentially revolutionise the DJ industry.
Beatport Link is effectively a streaming service similar to Spotify, where people with a subscription can stream tracks off the website in full without the need to purchase a copy.
You can probably guess what’s coming next… combining Beatport DJ and Beatport Link means you can manipulate the tracks on Beatport Link to use them to create a DJ set.
Beatport DJ is midi compatible, so you can link it with a hardware controller for hands-on mixing, but you can also use it with a mouse or laptop pad.
Using it with a mouse or laptop pad will be much harder and more limiting, but it means you don’t need to purchase anything other than a monthly subscription to try your hand at DJing, which traditionally is an expensive hobby to pick up.
Beatport has now removed that expensive point of entry by removing the expense of buying music and the equipment. Instead, you can stream all the music you want, and only need to buy software or a controller if you want to upgrade past Beatport DJ.
We would be very surprised is you see top DJs using Beatport DJ in a club, but the product seems aimed at a younger generation, as something of a gateway into the hobby or profession.
Anything that helps grow the world’s DJ community is something we applaud, and you can find out more HERE
