Avicii Was A Swedish Born EDM Star Who Tragically Took His Own Life
Google has shared an animation to commemorate the 32ndbirthday of Avicii who died in 2018.
Lasting 1 minute and 23 seconds, the Google Doodle video animation is set a soundtrack of Avicii’s hit track ‘Wake Me Up’ which has poignant lyrics that fit with the theme of the animation.
Avicii’s birthday is the 8th of September, and the release of the video also marks National Suicide Prevention Week in the US, which runs between the 5th and 11th of September 2021.
Tim Bergling better known for his music alias Avicii, took his own life, and is an example of how money and fame do not always bring happiness, as despite being incredibly successful, he still suffered from depression and anxiety.
The animated video was created by Alyssa Winans, Olivia When, and Sophie Diao. Talking about her work on the project, Alyssa Winans said: “The truth is Tim struggled a great deal during the touring part of his adulthood, and I wanted to find a way to both touch on the realities of that experience, while still celebrating and honouring his life in a way that fit the lyrics and tone of the track,” then continued. “I ultimately decided to spend the majority of the video on the aspects of his life he loved, with a few symbolic moments to allude to some of the more emotionally challenging experiences.”
Klas Bergling is Avicii’s father, and sharing his thoughts on the animated video, said: “The Doodle is fantastic, my family and I feel honoured and Tim would have been very proud and love it. It is a friendly and warm story of a young man fulfilling his dream to be a DJ and at the same time telling us that our journey in life is not always easy despite fame and fortune.”
Earlier in 2021, it was announced that Stockholm’s Ericsson Globe Arena would be renamed Avicii Arena to honour the deceased artist. There are also plans for a Avicii memorial to be constructed in the Swedish capital.
