Flying Lotus is a Los Angeles based beatmaker who has released critically acclaimed electronic music albums on the likes of Warp Records.
It’s been revealed that Flying Lotus has made music for a new Netflix anime series called ‘Yasuke’.
Netflix has already released some teaser images for the series that tells the story of the first African samurai warrior, which is apparently based on true events from the real world.
LeSean Thomas is the show’s creator, and he has been responsible for other hit TV shows including Black Dynamite and The Boondocks.
The animation has been done by the MAPPA studio, which amongst others, has also done imagery for Jujutsu Kaisen.
Flying Lotus provided original music for the show, and on Twitter gave a statement saying: “There is a serendipitous nature about this project, how an African-American man goes to Japan to live and work amongst the very best in Japanese anime to create an anime about an African who goes to Japan to live amongst the Japanese elite and become a warrior. Part of me deep down feels I was meant to create this adventure series with MAPPA, Flying Lotus, LaKeith and the rest of this talented team,”
It sounds like Netflix have brought together a highflying team for this show, and the concept sounds like an exceptional one, so we are excited for when the show airs, which will presumably be later this year.
