The latest release on Manual Music finds the label showcasing the final remix EP from Christian Bachmann’s acclaimed ‘Premium’ LP.
Released in June of last year the 14 track collection was a showcase of the Berlin artists love for raw analog synthesis. ‘Green’ and ‘Conversion’ were no doubt two of the highlights and here get updated wonderfully by Paul Hazendonk and Disko Dario.
The Dutch imprint certainly pulled out all the stops for the previous two remix EP’s, having Tim Engelhardt, Applescal and Avus work some absolute magic. Manual Music label boss Paul Hazendonk has chosen the robust, undeniably groovy ‘Green’ and taken it into stripped down, melodious territory. The bulbous bass tones from the original were one of its strong suits and Paul has added a warmer, rounder character for the ultimate funk and groove. There’s a lovely aquatic feel to this one, not only in the foundation but the meandering synths as well. It makes for a match made in oceanic heaven and a well timed, perfectly executed break adds just the right amount of drama for what’s sure to be a brilliant moment on the dance floor. I’ve been listening to this one a lot over the last month or so and it’s got to be one of Paul’s all time best remixes and my fave on the release as well.
Closing the EP off is Disko Dario who is making his Manual Music debut. Hailing from Switzerland Dario Aebersold aka Disko Dario has been a regular contributor to Solee’s Parquet Recordings over the last 3 years. Here he takes the moody, broken beat brilliance of ‘Conversion’ into lighter territory with great success. The original is damn good and one of my faves from the album actually so to see Disko give it new life is quite inspiring. He stays quite true to the main motifs from the original but in a much airier, effortless context. It’s open, wide screen appeal complements the heavy original perfectly and a lonely spaced out feel in the break proves to be a wonderful prelude to it’s warm, exhilarating conclusion. Two great interpretations from Paul and Disko which caps off what could only be considered an incredible string of remix EPs for Christian Bachmann’s ‘Premium’ LP. Highly Recommended.
