ATAXIA keep it real with a new EP on This And That Lab which adds to a back catalogue already including 20/20 Vision, Culprit and Nervous Records.

Detroit is where ATAXIA call home, and based in the city famed for being the birthplace of techno, they are proud of their roots.

For this EP it’s fair to say “three is the magic number” due to there being a trio of original tracks to choose from, but there is also a remix by Florian Busse that brings it to four-track total.

From the outset, the release has a tech house style, but each of the tracks has a different style that brings a rather eclectic mix to its overall sound.

Offbeat stabs and the aggressive vocal chants of “Mad Mick” although distinctive, would definitely be filed under the tech house header, but second of the originals “Mickster” has a stomach-churning synth line that sounds like it bends both time and space.

Mickster has definite nods to the minimal genre and the final cut “Mick Knack” is a blast from the past blending old-school elements with an array of sample textures.

Sandwiched between the originals is the Florian Busse remix of “Mad Mick” that puts a whole new spin on the track by working in melodic pads to build a whole new backing track for the originals vocal to sit on.
