Antrim returns to Manual Music offshoot MNL for a brand new EP alongside a stunning rework from Donatello.
The Argentinean artist and Or Two Strangers label boss last appeared on the Dutch imprint in January of last year with his ‘The Chemical of Return’ EP. Now returning for his fifth appearance on the label Antrim presents his much anticipated ‘Niger Mulier’ EP alongside a remix from Donatello.
Already off to a fast start Antrim’s 2017 has been full of wonderful productions. Drawing on a wide range of influences the Argentinean’s sound always drifts somewhere between deep house and techno with progressive house being of course the primary focus. The lead cut here ‘Niger Mulier’ is smooth, groovy and delightfully melodic. A rolling foundation gives it an energetic yet fluid feel while orchestral designs and sweeping sonics shine brightly. Luminous chord changes follow a well executed break before an epic third act seals it’s dance floor appeal. There’s a lot to like about this one and all the key mechanics seem to work together so effortlessly.
The companion piece ‘It Will Be This Time’ comes in deeper, with a similar design profile and just as groovy. Built around strong rhythmic elements it’s once again an irresistible head nodding, feet shuffling experience. The airier top end while less distinct brings its own mystical charm and a masterful drop should cause some havoc on the dance floor. Two gorgeous productions from Antrim fit for a variety of occasions.
The lone remix on the release is provided by Donatello who is making his first appearance on the label. The Lithuanian artist did appear on parent imprint Manual Music last year with a remix of Jaap Ligthart’s ‘The Haunt’. Donatello is loved for his tight, club friendly creations and is a regular in Beatport’s progressive house charts with his releases on Click and Stripped. Here he takes ‘It Will Be This Time’ much closer to the dance floor with a punchy, dynamic groove, acidic rhythms and a strong drum complement. The main theme gets made over nicely, more pronounced and full of hooky charm, it carries the first act well as clustered claps and rides build momentum. The main break is brief with a band of decay bringing just enough anticipation for a stellar drop. Another sure fire dance floor bomb from Donatello and one you’re likely to be seeing in the Beatport charts very soon. Another well put together release for Paul Hazendonk’s MNL imprint who seems to be moving right along with the resurgence of progressive house. Highly Recommended.
