The 41st release on Cid Inc’s Replug Records welcomes Anton Make & Shamil OM to the label for their debut EP.
Hailing from Russia, Anton Make has been enjoying the best year of his career. A recent release on Lonya’s Asymmetric Recordings remains a discography highlight while Hernan Cattaneo has been a recent supporter of Anton’s music. Fellow countryman Shamil OM has long been one of Russia’s most well known DJs, having shared the stage with Sasha, Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed, Deep Dish and Nic Fanciulli, while performing at top festivals such as Kazantip, Fortdance, Depo and more. Now coming together for their first collaborative project Anton and Shamil present their much anticipated debut EP for Replug Records entitled ‘Naja Nova’.
The release begins with its title and showcase piece ‘Naja Nova’ which finds Anton and Shamil crafting a dark progressive techno gem. Getting underway with crisp beats and dreamy arps the piece exudes an electric energy straight away. Set against a swirling backdrop, it’s hypnotic cadence grows as dulcet tones and subtle modulation elevate the atmosphere as the break approaches. The brooding yet hopeful mood is met with a wall of sonic decay, building tension as the break unfolds, ultimately sending the track into overdrive with offset noise and hypnotic waves taking you further into the vortex.
Presenting a more introspective approach the EP continues with ‘Snow Man’. A percussive number backed by mountainous slabs of bass, evolving synth textures and rugged effects. It’s meditative qualities are hard to resist as metallic swells make for several dynamic moments throughout the first act. A stripped down middle section keeps the groove locked as the effects storyboard intensifies, building to a crescendo of melodic noise and a massive drop that’s sure to light up your dance floor.
The release concludes with the aptly titled ‘Spiritual Level’, a piece born out of raw emotion and reflective moods. A deep, rolling groove sets the track in motion while mesmerising rhythms and soulful motifs surround the framework. A radiant glow accents the hopeful themes while a robust line and clustered claps add dynamic flair. With the intensity rising a short break advances the modular journey as the twisted line continues to evolve, before a lone vocal sample summons the drums leading one final charge to close out the EP. An emotional ride and a fitting end to a fabulous Replug debut for Anton and Shamil. Don’t miss it.
