Paul Oakendfold in 2017 set a world record for playing the DJ set at the highest altitude ever when he performed at Mount Everest’s Base Camp. Officially the “highest concert on Earth.”

The set was to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the Second Summer of Love, which in the UK saw the rise of acid house music and unlicensed rave parties.

Second Summer of Love in the 1980’s had a knock-on effect in other parts of Europe, and could be argued was the beginning of electronic music spreading across the world.

The record breaking DJ set from Paul Oakendfold was performed in the early hours of the morning and also raised funds for charitable organisations Supporting Nepal’s Children and Youth Music.

There is now a documentary called SoundTrek that tells the story of the world’s highest DJ set, and the struggles the team went through to make it happen. It’s exclusively available to watch via movie and music service FlixFling.

Giving a statement on the documentary and DJ set, Paul Oakenfold said: “The success of SoundTrek Mount Everest was just the beginning,” then continued “Based on the amount of money raised for charity and the global success of the adventure, I plan to do many more SoundTreks around the globe.”
