Summer Festivals may not go-ahead in Brandenburg, Germany

49 Festival Organisers Have Formed An Action Alliance To Challenge Event Restrictions.

A survey carried out by the trade association ImPuls Brandenburg has collected results from 49 festival organisers, and the results show that they feel the situation for outdoor summer events in Brandenburg is becoming hopeless.

Summer festivals in the German state are still uncertain due to the COVID-19 situation still being at a critical point, as the country is currently suffering another wave of the virus.

50 open-air festival organisers from Berlin and Brandenburg have joined forces with Clubcommission Berlin to create an action alliance. Some of the festivals involved include Feel Festival, Nation of Gondwana, Antaris and Bay of Dreamers.

In an attempt to grow awareness for their cause, the action alliance has posted an open letter that they hope will go viral on social media.

The letter raises awareness of their cause and emphasises the importance of festival culture for both the economy and social structures.

Collectively, the events forming the alliance generate around 11 million pounds per year and missing last year due to the pandemic caused each of them immense financial damage.

Conscious that missing two years in a row could be too big a blow for some of them to take, this initiative aims to put pressure on the German government to ensure they do everything that’s possible for outdoor festivals to run in 2021.

They are also calling for information to be provided on the aid that was promised by the Landtag of Brandenburg in January.
