The latest release on Golden Wings Music welcomes Ryan Sullivan to the label for his debut EP.
Hailing from South Africa, Ryan has long been of his country’s most recognized electronic music talents. His 10 year production career has seen his music showcased on Manual Music, Perc Trax and Baroque Records. More recent appearances on Just Movement, Lowbit Records and One Of A Kind have made for a great start to 2016 which continues here with a fabulous two track EP entitled ‘Trickery’.
The release begins with the title cut and for all those that loved Ryan’s remix of ‘Prisma’ by Nicholas Van Orton you’re sure to love this as well. Anchored by a sequence of funky bass tones the dance floor sensibility is high straight away. A catchy vocal hook locks the groove down a notch further before some powerful drums and twisty lines take the track into the break. The waves of drums build tension along with a trail of vocal gates and ethereal haze. It’s a gorgeous centrepiece, perfectly setting up an epic finale with soaring atmospheres and emotive designs. Definitely a goosebump worthy third act and surely one of Ryan’s best to date, excellent work.
The companion piece ‘Inner City’ comes in with the same ethereal moods but scaled back just a touch in terms of overall intensity. Again the low end is wonderfully shaped with an abundance of character and the clicky percussion has a great vibrancy to it. Ultimately though it’s the evolving atmospheres and emotion generated as a result that really sucks you in before an even dreamier third act seals it’s brilliance. Two great cuts from Ryan which would have to be some of his most melodic and satisfying work to date. Highly Recommended.
