Marz – Drift / Scarface (Dopamine Music)

The 66th release on Nikko.Z’s Dopamine Music welcomes Marz to the label for his debut EP.

Marios Siappas aka Marz hails from Greece and found a home on the High Strings imprint upon making his production debut in 2015. The Greek artist comes from the Hacienda generation and his timeless take on house music certainly reflects that. Now making his much anticipated debut on Dopamine Music Marz presents his ‘Drift’ EP alongside remixes from Speerit and Evans T.

The title and showcase piece ‘Drift’ finds Marz crafting a slice of deep, late night techno. Dubby tones, bouncy beats and percussive waves bring a smooth, hypnotic vibe early. Subtle rhythmic shifts make for a deadly first act before stripping down into the main break. A tense yet meditative centrepiece lures you further into its sonic core before the choppy percs and round beats return for a big moment. A late night gem from Marz that’s already causing a stir in the Greek underground.

The lone interpretation of ‘Drift’ is provided by Speerit who is returning to Dopamine for his third appearance. The Greek artist is fresh off his ‘Serpe Pepe’ EP released just last month earning support from Sasha, Danny Tenaglia and Erick Morillo. Now continuing his resurgence in the deep house underground Speerit turns in an amazing interpretation of ‘Drift’. With a housier approach the Greek artist expands on the great themes from the original, surrounding them with haunting vocal elements and a hazy resonance. Shimmering pads float, adding emotion to the narrative, carrying the mix into a timely break. An atmospheric peak, the track’s centrepiece although short heightens the senses before the deep, rolling groove returns for more late night magic.

The companion piece ‘Scarface’ comes in a deeper, housier and just as engaging as the lead. Warehouse beats, offset drums and nostalgic vocal samples set the stage early as a shimmering pad fades into prominence, initiating the main break. Phasing tension encompasses the short second act, heightening the senses before getting washed away for the stripped framework once more. More groovy action from Marz and a perfect complement to ‘Drift’.

The lone interpretation of ‘Scarface’ is provided by Evans T who is making his first appearance on the label. Evangellos Tsitsanis aka Evans T hails from Greece and has been a staple of the deep house underground since 2008. His discography is highlighted with releases on Tash’s Movement Recordings as well as the recently relaunched Dyami imprint. Now making his debut on Dopamine Music Evans T presents his first production since December of 2015 putting his own unique twist on ‘Scarface’. Staying true to the main themes from original the Greek artist reshapes the groove into a romping, housey affair with clanky drums and smooth rhythms. The main break brings further drama with a calculated build and big drop, surely destined for dance floor success. A top interpretation from Evans T which rounds out another excellent release on Nikko.Z’s Dopamine Music. Don’t miss it.
