The Purr Music celebrates their milestone 100th release this week with a new EP from Jero Nougues.
Launched in July of 2014 and headed up by Jelly For The Babies, the Serbian imprint has accomplished a lot in 2 1/2 years. Their artist roster now reads like a who’s who of the deep house underground with Hraach, Powel, Evgeny, Jim Naposhto, Subalpine, Roby Deep, Rishi K., Hernan Cerbello and more all contributing great music to the label. Now reaching their much anticipated 100th release The Purr presents a new EP from Jero Nougues alongside remixes from Peter Makto & Gregory S and Chrono.
Hailing from Argentina, Jero Nougues has long been one of his country’s most loved deep house talents. Drawing inspiration from The Timewriter, Terry Lee Brown Junior and Miguel Migs, Jero has had his music showcased on Savoir Faire Musique, DeepClass Records and Haute Musique with Mark Farina, Danny Howells and X-PRESS 2 all being regular supporters. Here he presents two gorgeous cuts lead by the enchanting ‘Cosmos’. Played out over 10 magical minutes it’s chunky groove and dubby rhythms sound undeniably late night but a band of subtle yet sparkling melodies adds some amazing emotional depth. The companion piece ‘Hex’ comes in a touch more melodic and sits as a wonderful complement . Once again the smoothness of the groove and supreme flow cannot be overstated. It’s a joy to listen to as clustered motifs and textural drifts take you into the emotional core of the track. It definitely hits a sweet spot during the second act with a cinematic storyboard setting up an even groovier conclusion. Two beauties from Jero.
The Purr Music selected two excellent remixer choices to ring in release #100 with Hungarian duo Peter Makto & Gregory S being first up with a unique take on ‘Cosmos’. Their borderless sound has long been a favourite in the underground and under various project alias’ as well. They aim squarely at the dance floor here with a tough, stripped framework and big bass stabs. It’s a groove that locks you in quick and the effects storyboard has an unpredictability that is really nice. Ultimately it’s the main break which brings the most emotional tension with long swells and that distinctive vocal setting up a great drop. Wonderful remix from Peter and Gregory.
The lone interpretation of ‘Hex’ is provided by Chrono who is making his first appearance on The Purr. Zoltan Szalai aka Chrono is part of the new breed of Serbian DJs which is currently making waves in the underground, having already found a home on Great Stuff Recordings and Natura Viva where his deep house sound has flourished. Closing the release out in style Chrono puts his own unique twist on ‘Hex’ with an epic rework of ‘Hex’. Expanding wonderfully on the main themes from the original, it’s a notch or two bigger with tough beats, soaring synths and amazing vocal elements. Warm bass swells make up the foundation and bring more than a few goose bump worthy moments with the main break being the peak as layers of sonic dust prelude a wicked finale. Gorgeous interpretation from Chronos which rounds out an exceptional 100th release from The Purr Music. Highly Recommended.
