A negative COVID-19 test isn’t enough to dance in a Berlin nightclub.
Berlin has lifted its ban on dancing at indoor spaces, but only for those who are either vaccinated or have recently recovered from a COVID-19 infection.
RBB reported that on Friday the 20th of August, a Berlin court of law ruled that the ban on indoor dancing was fair, but “likely to be disproportionate” when being applied to people that have been vaccinated or recently recovered from COVID-19.
So, this has led the blanket ban on indoor dancing to be lifted, but only for people who have COVID-19 antibodies after recovering from an infection, or for people who have protection due to being vaccinated. Anyone else is still banned from the dance floor.
Having a negative test result might mean that person isn’t infectious, but that same person would be vulnerable to infection if someone vaccinated is carrying the virus. Vaccinated people might not get symptoms, but that can still spread it to those who are vulnerable if they are a carrier.
This courtroom ruling is a result of a lawsuit made against Berlin’s government by a group of local venue owners whose businesses are being negatively affected by the current restrictions. The court decision could still be appealed in the Higher Administrative Court Of Berlin-Brandenburg.
