Australia’s Electronic Music Conference marks its 10th anniversary on the 25th of November with a series of events running until the 5th of December.
The conference itself is taking place on November 25th at the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo, Sydney. To mark the 10th anniversary the Electronic Music Conference has increased the festival’s footprint, which this year stretches across multiple local government areas covering Sydney CBD, Inner West, Western Sydney and Northern Beaches, as well as localised and regional touch points.
Respected globally as Asia Pacific’s leading electronic and dance music industry event, it galvanises the Australian electronic music scene while also inviting those from other parts of the world to get a snapshot of what’s happening down under.
Europe and the Western Hemisphere is often considered to be epicentre of electronic music scene, but Australia has a vibrant and thriving scene with regular events that gather thousands of people and a selection of home-grown talent that is now being exported to other parts of the world.
Artists such as Rüfüs Du Sol and Mall Grab being just two examples of the artists that have proven that Australia is equally relevant as places like the UK, Germany and America. It’s just harder for Aussie artists to play gigs abroad due to the cost of flights if they’re travelling to places like Europe.
It also works in reverse, as European artists have costly flights to play in Australia, which makes promoters need to charge more for tickets or split the costs with other events.
These are some of the talking points and topics that will be discussed at the event with panels and industry talks from brands including Red Bull, Warner Music Australia, Strawberry Fields Festival, NITV, Green Music Australia, Spore Festival, Bakehouse Studio, FBi Radio, NSW Government and the City of Sydney.
Electronic Music Conference is also an opportunity for music makers to meet and collaborate with masterclasses in partnership with Ableton and Roland. Running on Wednesday the 30th November, each class will have 30 participants who will be able to learn from innovative Australian artists including Moss, Ninajirachi, Nyxen and Taka Perry.
Running alongside the conference is a music festival that will have live music and DJ performances from a selection of local and international electronic music artists.
Talking about the event, Electronic Music Conference Director, Jane Slingo said: “Reflecting on EMC 2012 – 2022, there have certainly been storms to weather. But I am grateful for many things. The abundance of learnings. The many wonderful people from Australia and the world who have generously shared their knowledge, their experience and their challenges for the benefit of others at EMC. EMC’s supporters who got our vision and backed us over these years.”
“Most of all, the opportunity to have collaborated with so many brilliant people this past decade – wildly talented artists and their courageous teams, inspiring community and industry leaders, those that share the stories about the culture and the people – the writers, marketers and publicists. I’m humble about this milestone, but also really looking forward to celebrating it with EMC’s friends and peers, new and old, at EMC10.”
