Melbourne will be getting an open-air club with a capacity of 550 people, but if this wasn’t exciting enough… it’s also a floating venue!
‘Atet’ is inspired by the European day clubs that are located in places like of Mykonos, Ibiza and Berlin. Launching this Spring, its open-air dance floor can be covered by a clear PVC roof so the party won’t stop because it rains and the two bars, plus kitchen will be structured by a geometric frame lined with LED lighting.
Built from the hull of a repurposed barge, Atet will be docked in Docklands for 12 months on North Wharf underneath the towers of Bolte Bridge. Not only will it be the perfect spot to spend the day or night dancing, it will offer incredible views of the Melbourne skyline.
For those curious about its name, Atet is the name of a mythical solar barge used by the sun god Ra. In ancient Egyptian mythology, Ra travelled through the sky on the barge, which he used as a vehicle to provide light to the world.
Jake Hughes is the person behind Atet, and in a statement, he said: “Atet is more than just a bar on water – we are channelling the open-air day party experience of festivals and day clubs around Europe and providing it on a regular basis in the heart of Melbourne,” then continued. “There is a sense of freedom induced by this environment that can’t be replicated indoors.”
There are also plans for a bus operating at the end of the night to transport people back to Melbourne city centre or to Southern Cross Station.
Flow Music also has plans to run events at Atet, and will soon have more to announce about that.
