Ibiza’s Nightclubs Can Reopen From April 2022

The Spanish island’s nightlife hasn’t been able to open for a full season since 2019.

A report from Diario de Ibiza confirms that Ibiza’s nightclubs can open from April 2022.

As a result, various nightlife and tourism figures are putting plans in place for a longer Ibiza clubbing season to make up for revenue lost in the past couple of years. Ibiza’s clubs have not been able to open in for a full season since 2019.

José Luis Benítez is the manager of the Ocio de Ibiza (Leisure of Ibiza) association, and speaking with Diario de Ibiza he said: “The idea is that the opening will be at the end of April, two weeks ahead of what is normally done.” He also stated plans for the Ibiza clubbing season to “continue on until October … November if all goes well.”

Only a handful of clubs on the Ibiza island opened when they were granted permission to open with restriction, in October 2021. Some of those restrictions included capacity limits, mask-wearing and COVID-19 passports.

It was only a very limited period that clubs were able to open, and as a result venues like Amnesia held their opening and closing parties on the same weekend in October 2021.

Parts of Spain’s economy relies heavily on tourism, so the country is keen to welcome holidaymakers. At a recent press conference, Spain’s tourism minister, Reyes Maroto said that “Spain is a safe tourism destination and “Governments must not raise alarms” in light of rising COVID-19 cases.

Ibiza has a global reputation for being one of the best clubbing destinations in the world, and people travel from far and wide to sample its summer nightlife.

It’s possible that COVID-19 passports may still be used for entry to Ibiza clubs in 2022 if cases are high, but officials are making it clear that they would only be considered a backup plan if it ensured clubs can open.
