Lee Reynolds and Memo Rex deliver an acidic ‘Long Weekend’

In their aptly titled ‘Long Weekend’, Lee Reynolds and Memo Rex capture the universal excitement one gets from having an extra day or two off work. The two do well in building instensity through the record, starting off on a simpler, nearly minimal note with the namesake track. Immediately, a tone is set here: acid tones, clean, yet groovy basslines, and licks of vocals point to house music of the past but with a modern twist in arrangement. Come “Alive Again,” featuring Delos, we’re locked fully into the psychedelic trip that is Long Weekend with hands raised to the sky.

‘Long Weekend’ marks the second entry in ‘The Road To Desert Hearts’, a new series from the label that sees its core four crew members—Lee Reynolds, Porky, Marbs, and Mikey Lion—crafting EPs ahead of their iconic California festival. Next up in the series is Mikey Lion’s entry, followed by Marbs to cap it all off.
