Gary Beck is a Scottish techno artist famed for his high-velocity techno on labels ranging from Soma to his own BEK Audio.
Along with Gary Beck’s own music, BEK Audio has featured Mark Broom, Slam, DJ Rush and Speedy J. Recently the label celebrated its ten-year anniversary with a special two-part release.
To celebrate 10 years of BEK Audio, we asked Gary Beck to tell his all-time favourite classic that inspired both him and the label?
Gary Beck: My answer would have to be Renato Cohen’s track “Pontape” released on Intec Records. This track blew my mind the first time I heard it around 2001. I used to work in Glasgow’s legendary Arches nightclub and this tune was played by everyone. I literally counted down the days until it was finally released on Carl Cox’s Intec imprint. It’s such a powerful energetic tool of a track, and to this day I still play it occasionally… it simply never fails! It’s had various remixes since the first release, but nothing will ever compare to the Original. One other thing that’s special about this track is the simple elements involved in its production. Nothing too dramatic, just a clever use of simplicity.
