Antrim – The Mystic Lovers (Or Two Strangers)

The latest release on Or Two Strangers finds label boss Antrim delivering his second single.

Antrim - The Mystic Lovers (Or Two Strangers)

The Argentinean artist launched the label amidst much praise with his long awaited ‘Or Two Strangers’ single alongside remixes from Danito & Athina and Daniel Zuur. A favourite of Hernan Cattaneo all through the spring and summer seasons the EP was also a staple of Beatport’s Progressive House charts. Looking to build on that success Antrim now presents his much anticipated second single entitled ‘The Mystic Lovers’ alongside remixes from Silinder and Himbrecht.

Much like ‘Or Two Strangers’, ‘The Mystic Lovers’ has been much sought after. Heavy play from Nick Warren all throughout his ‘Soundgarden’ American tour has created buzz around the piece and with good reason. It’s elastic-like foundation and broken percussion carve out a deadly groove while hazy melodies tease the senses. Like a momentous ride through a foggy landscape the track works through a variety of rhythmic motifs before the main break strips it’s to its core following a rush of sonic dust. Avoiding the obligatory big moments the track excels on vibe and flow which ultimately seals it’s brilliance on the dance floor as well.

The first interpretation of ‘The Mystic Lovers’ is provided by Silinder who is making his first appearance on the label. The Irish producer is a veteran of the progressive house underground and owns releases on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music and is also a regular contributor to Perspectives Digital and Proton Music. Here he puts his own unique twist on ‘The Mystic Lovers’ taking the track into deeper, darker territory. With a markedly slower tempo and radically revamped groove Silinder has injected funk and psychedelia into the smooth, energetic original. Stellar drum work and a wealth of effects makes for an amazing journey while chopped elements from the original complete the tripped out storyboard.

The second and final interpretation of ‘The Mystic Lovers’ is provided by Himbrecht who is also making his ‘Or Two Strangers’ debut. The UK artist is perhaps best known for his releases on Henry Saiz’s Natura Sonoris and Subjekt Records where his eerie take on melodic electronica has flourished. Here he overhauls ‘The Mystic Lovers’ into a slice of deep hypnotic techno which complements the previous two versions perfectly. Anchored by a low slung groove the piece flows through a brooding, melancholic storyboard; eventually revealing strong chord stabs which initiate the main break. A decayed drum sequence brings a moment of tension before the beats drop and the metallic rhythms return for a stellar third act finale. A heady remix from Himbrencht which rounds out another must have release from Antrim’s ‘Or Two Strangers’ imprint. Don’t miss it.
