Francois Bresez & El Marco Chat with Flow About Club Culture, Creative Process, and Their mix for Flow Sessions 117

Flow Music is proud to welcome DJ and producer duo Francois Bresez & El Marco to the Flow Sessions series. With deep roots in Frankfurt’s iconic underground scene and a sound that reflects decades of connection to house and techno, they’ve delivered a compelling new mix that blends spontaneity with deep musicality. We caught up with the duo to talk creative process, club culture, and what’s next for their summer and beyond.

1. Welcome, Francois & El Marco! You just released an incredible mix for our Flow Sessions series. What was the creative vision and energy behind this set?

Francois & El Marco:
First of all, hello and thank you for giving us the opportunity to present ourselves on your platform!
To be honest, there wasn’t really a vision—just a vibe—and that vibe coincided with a very extensive music library. We don’t plan sets; they just happen in the flow.

2. Frankfurt has a deep-rooted electronic music culture. How does performing there compare to Berlin, which is often considered the epicentre of underground electronic music?

Francois & El Marco:
Clubbing in Frankfurt is a bit more compact and smaller compared to Berlin, where the clubs often have more space.
People in Frankfurt prefer a deep, groovy sound without too much depth or length. As long as it’s banging, everything’s fine—but an early morning without techno? Not an option.

3. Can you tell us something about the underground electronic scene in Frankfurt? Are there any special features that set it apart from other German cities?

Francois & El Marco:
In the ’90s and early 2000s, Frankfurt was the epicentre of German club culture. People from all over the country travelled to clubs like Dorian Grey, Omen, and U60311.
And once a year, they all headed to Berlin to be part of the Love Parade.

One thing that makes Frankfurt stand out is that it’s the home of Sven Väth—was and always will be—even though he now lives in Ibiza.
And since 2022, Frankfurt has something no other city does: the Museum of Modern Electronic Music (MOMEM)momem.org.

4. As DJs and producers, how do you see the development of the electronic music scene in Frankfurt? Are there any exciting new venues, collectives, or trends?

Francois & El Marco:
Since the pandemic, everything has shifted. There’s less emphasis among younger crowds on DJ craft—whether it’s vinyl, CD, or USB doesn’t seem to matter as much anymore. The appreciation for craftsmanship has faded a bit.

Music is also faster now—130 BPM is not uncommon. Every generation has its own Zeitgeist.
We are also seeing the return of iconic party series like Cocoon, which is great to witness.

5. You both have an exciting summer ahead of you! What gigs and festivals are coming up in the coming months?

Francois & El Marco:
The really wild years are behind us—back when we’d play up to three gigs a week in and around Frankfurt. We’ve slowed down a bit, but we’re still active.

We’ll be playing at Pracht/Frankfurt and a few open-air events, though dates are still being confirmed.
Each gig remains a special journey, and honestly, we never know exactly where it will take us.

6. Are you currently working on new productions or collaborations alongside your performances?

Francois & El Marco:
Yes! We have several upcoming releases:

  • The FBTMS – Evergreen EP (out now on CWV)
    Listen here

  • The FBTMS – Solar EP (releasing April 11, 2025 on CWA)
    Buy / Listen

7. And finally: For those who haven’t experienced one of your sets, how would you describe a Francois Bresez & El Marco performance?

Francois & El Marco:
In one word: Riveting.
Our sound captures the pulse of Frankfurt nightlife — raw, hypnotic, and unforgettable.
