VNTM Live – Top 5 Studio Gear

Dutch flourishing artist VNTM Live is no stranger to studio gear, delivering transcending and mysterious live sets across the board. These are his top picks…

Moog Minitaur
Moog has been a classic in almost every studio around the globe, that’s why it was the first synth I got when moving into the analog world of production. I’m using this very compact machine for almost all my basslines, the easy controls and limited options are making this synth a very quick and hands-on tool. Because of the waves it generates it’s easy to create bass sounds that hit very deep and with very minimal processing it’s easy to get a decent sound. I would recommend this synth for every producer that wants to go out of the box and start using analog gear.

Elektron Digi-tone
Just got this FM synth recently and I have to admit it’s quite a struggle to get to know every function of it. It has a big learning curve because every knob has multiple functions. But the possibilities are endless and you can create very complicated sounds that are hard to replicate with any other machine. The fact that it’s very compact makes it easy to take with me on the road and use in my livesetup. Definitely one to watch for every producer that wants to step up the sound design level!

Juno-60
My studio mate got this synth a long time ago and it has been in our studio ever since. I’m mostly using it for atmospheric elements and pads and it never dissapoints. It’s a classic and there is a reason the prices of it are skyrocketing nowadays. If you can’t manage to get a real one there are plenty of digital remakes of it to try!

Ableton Push II
I have been using this machine for the past 2 years already and it is a very nice hands-on tool to control Ableton. You can control every parameter and sequence drums and melodies with it.
Instead of having to make music with a mouse and a keyboard, you can now work with your hands and control multiple effects and knobs at once, and that is the most important reason for using it because it gives me more creative freedom and inspiration.

Universal Audio Apollo Twin
After trying different budget audio interfaces I finally bought this 3 years ago and to be honest it has one of the best converters and the audio quality is stunning. Another big advantage is the whole UAD plugin bundle you can use, compared to plugins like Waves or the standard Ableton bundle these are outstanding. Definitely one to get if you want to upgrade your studio!
