Spotify announces new CD quality streaming

Spotify has announced the launch of a new service called Spotify HiFi which will provide lossless high-quality audio.

The new service will be released later this year to people with a Spotify Premium subscription, and was announced as part of Spotify’s online event ‘Stream On’.

There were also some other new features announced to improve the streaming platform, which is one of the most popular in the world.

Spotify HiFi is planned for roll out in response to feedback from the platform’s users, as apparently improved audio quality has been the No.1 request.

News of the additional features didn’t come with any information about the price, and whether Spotify Premium users will be expected to pay more, or need to opt into a new package.

It’s promised that the service will work on all the Spotify platforms including Spotify Connect-enabled speakers.

It’s expected that more information will follow this announcement, as there are still questions about the bitrate or sample rate of the new format, and so far they haven’t said if it will be FLAC, WAV, AIFF etc.

It can’t be denied that this is good news for music fanatics who like to hear their favourite tracks in the highest quality possible, and don’t mind paying more for the privilege.
