Premiere: FXtion Label Boss Lee Pearce Goes Deep Down On Long Island

We recently premiered Lee’s Long Island cut on our Soundcloud and caught up with the Birmingham based deep tech house guru to get his thoughts on the scene.

How old are you, where are you living and how long have you been producing and Djing?

Lee Pearce: I’m, 29 living in the West Midlands, UK. I have been DJing since the age of 16 originally started on vinyl. I’ve been dabbling with production over the years but started it professionally 2 and a half years ago.

What made you get into dance music?

Lee Pearce: Good question. My earliest memories of liking anything do with dance music would be Michael Jackson, John Digweed and Sasha.

Where was your first gig?

Lee Pearce: My first ever gig was in my hometown of Walsall.

How difficult was learning to produce for you in the beginning?

Lee Pearce: It was pretty difficult. As with anything it takes time to get better. I just practiced and practiced until I got to a point where I needed to take the next step and learn about the science behind production. This is where I joined Point Blank Music in London and it went from there really.

Talk to us about your latest release and the inspiration behind it.

Lee Pearce: I am huge fan of Oxia and Gorge and the music they put out. The inspiration of Iced Tea came from Oxia’s EP on Gorges Label 8bit, Unity. I begin working on this track at around the time of release and it’s been in the pipeline since.

What’s the music scene like where you live and how often are you playing?

Lee Pearce: The scene is great at the moment. Digbeth in Birmingham is the go to place for quality house music with a diverse selection of events. As for playing, I play here and there now and again but mainly focusing on building my Labels FXtion Records and Swerve Digital.

Which other DJs or producers are you liking right now?

Lee Pearce: Jame Moorfield is putting out some wicked stuff right now we’ve signed a couple of EPs from him as well as featured him on our Ibiza Sampler which is out now. CamelPhat, Kenny Ground, CASSIMM, Tolstio, Mhod. The list could go on, there is a lot of good music hitting the scene at the moment.

What are your go to labels?

Lee Pearce: FXtion and Swerve obviously haha. But liking 8Bit Records, Wow recordings, Glasgow Underground, Daylight Robbery, Relief, One Fold, Freakin 303, 303 Lovers. Again there’s a fair few decent labels out there now putting out quality music.

Tell us about your DJ setup

Lee Pearce: CDJ2000’s, 1210’s DJM900 and RMX 1000.

What’s been your biggest achievement

Lee Pearce: Good question. To be honest I’d have to say I am stoked at how much traction and support the labels are getting as of late and how much we’ve progressed in a year.

What can we expect from you soon

Lee Pearce: More quality music aha! I think I am going to start working on an album soon. Who knows we’ll see where the music takes me 🙂
